In my conversation with the activist – she mentioned a small improvement which was both a relief and made me want to punch myself in the face. She was talking about how her collective arranges to provide sanitary pads to people affected by disasters, like floods etc and that these are also now a part of the standard kits given out in disaster response. A great change, she said, from the 2005 earthquake, when her collective arranged sanitary pads and delivered them to the military which was managing relief efforts. Then learned that the soldiers were issuing one sanitary pad per woman, and couldn’t understand why they kept coming back for more.
